Jumping Sharks sessions took place between December of 2018 and May of 2019 at GCR Audio and Mammoth Recording Studio, both located near downtown Buffalo, NY.  We’d been sitting on most of the new songs for some time, and it helped to have the opportunity to rehearse everything at our home studio (That ‘70s Show) before spending time at GCR and Mammoth.

Brad, Mike and Justin(From GCR & Mammoth) were all fantastic to work with.  They made these recordings sound fresher than my usual 1968-ish approach.  But we still retained that throwback Classic Rock feel.

As much as I wanted the songs to play as a thought-out album, we also wanted them to each stand out on their own.  I remember mentioning I wouldn’t be opposed to somehow making the album play on constant shuffle, somewhat like a choose your own adventure novel.  But as we finished up the final sessions a running order began to take shape, as well as an overall theme.

The title Jumping Sharks is a nod to us getting a bit older and perhaps we’re 'Jumping The Shark' on some little things.  Embracing it and allowing the music to go where it’s going in the future are key elements.  As much as we love Classic Rock and stuff our parents enjoy, there’s a chance this will be the last of our albums to have that old-time feel......

About MMOC

'Classic Rock For Today'
In 2008, singer and songwriter Tyler Calkins set out to create a sound reflecting the songwriting techniques of the sixties and seventies, while also utilizing modern and contemporary rock aspects. He joined forces with best friend Dave Verbocy and two two released Marshmellow Overcoat's first album in 2009.  Eventually the duo added Anthony Cavallaro and Alan Hancock and the group was up and running.

With over a decade of performing together and several albums released, MMOC recently broke through with the critically acclaimed Jumping Sharks.  The group is focused on completing its next record in the studio, but at live performances you can be asured the band will be playing many of your favorite '60s, '70s and '90s hits.

*MMOC's music and professional equipment fits almost any occasion from the most intimate events to the largest stages.  Tyler is also available for solo acoustic guitar and piano gigs - Click CONTACT for booking information.

Marshmellow Overcoat's Self-Titled LP

Marshmellow Overcoat brings Classic Rock up to date with the release of their new self-titled album.  The Pennsylvania band’s most fully-realized work yet, the album features the singles “The Room Spins Around,” “Marshmellow Overcoat," "See the Plan" and many more standout throwback Rock songs.
The LP is the first to feature the four-piece lineup of Tyler Calkins (Vocals, Guitars, Piano and Songwriting), Anthony Cavallaro (Drums), Jason Wood (Bass and Backing Vocals) and Alan Hancock (Guitar).

“It’s my favorite of ours so far, but that’s easy to say right after the fact.  We’ll play the tunes out as much as we can this year and we’ll know for sure.  Seeing the crowd reaction is the best part."-Tyler
